What MSP does — and doesn't — mean for your sale

  • MSP is paid only when the government buys at its procurement centres, during notified procurement windows, for produce that meets quality norms. It is not the price every mandi must pay.
  • In an ordinary mandi auction, the price can be above or below MSP on any day.
  • Vegetables and fruits such as onion, potato and tomato are not covered by MSP at all.
  • Copra and jute also have MSPs, announced in separate releases; they are not listed here.
